The Revival and Restoration page for the late Prime Minister Sir Edward Heaths unusual pair of Quad ESL 57s Electrostatic loudspeakers
Recently acquired, we shall be bringing these back to full health, slowly. So keep watching this page for updates on the progress as we put the life back into this historical pair of ESL 57s
These Quad ESL 57 loudspeakers belonged to the Late Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath ( 9/7/16 - 17/7/2005)
Originally housed at his home ’Arundells’ In Salisbury. www.arundells.org.
There are a few pictures on the web of them next to his Steinway Grand Piano.
He played the piano, organ and then became an orchestral conductor working with the likes of Previn, Karajan, Solti, Abbado and Ormandy, so he had a keen ear for quality. Not surprising then that he chose the Quad ESL 57s for his music reproduction.
These were custom enhanced to his own taste. Quite unique, we thought its best to keep them ‘as was’ and due to the condition, rebuild them, keeping the appearance the same as so to identify them as those that belonged to Sir Edward Heath.
They were acquired in a kind of barn find and we are thankful we found them as they have obviously been stored for a number of years and have deteriorated to some extent.
